Last summer, I was given a 3 drawer storage unit from my in-laws. I wanted to use it for my girls’ toys. But the thing was, the color of the unit wasn’t really girly. It was yellow, red, green, and blue. The color wouldn’t fit in with my girls’ things.
My husband and I decided to spray paint the storage unit. We took it outside and wiped everything down.
We spray painted the outside white and the drawers a dark pink. While my husband and I were spray painting the base, my can of white spray paint starting leaking onto my hand; it was very sticky. We ended up buying two more cans of spray paint into order to hide the blue. We used 2-3 cans of pink for the drawers. I used two coats to make sure everything was covered.
I’d say the storage unit turned out great. I love the color and the drawers work great to put my girls’ toys in. We have the storage unit in our living room. I have the drawers neatly organized with their coloring books, crayons, markers, cards, play dough, puzzles, and other toys. I can take items out as needed without having a big mess. It’s nice when they can open the drawers themselves yet.

Thanks! The spray paint gets scrapped little bit when opening the drawers, but I don’t think it’s a big deal.

I think it looks much better than the bright primary colors, especially if you have it in your living room. I have a smaller one in my bathroom with clear drawers. What if I don’t want everyone always looking at my creams and medications!?!
It would be a great idea to spray paint the drawers you have in your bathroom. Then no one can see your items. Maybe a light color or something that would go with the colors in your bathroom.
