A Trip to the Zoo

Words on Parenting Wednesday is a weekly post series on the subject of parenting. I’ll talk about any adventures we have with our girls to motherhood experiences to fun and games for children.

Do you love taking multiple trips to the zoo in the summer? What animals do your children love to see the most?

Last week was our first trip to the zoo this summer. It was a perfect day to go to the Dakota Zoo – low eighties with a slight breeze. There will definitely be more trips. We will be buying a zoo pass for the next time we go. A zoo pass is worth it since we will be taking our girls to the zoo a lot this summer.

This trip to the zoo was also Sophia’s first time seeing the animals and being interested in what she sees. Last year she was still an infant, so she didn’t know she was seeing animals. Katie was either walking beside us or was on top of Daddy’s shoulders while on the path. Sophia sat in the stroller and looked all around her. Katie and Sophia loved seeing all the animals around them.

One of the best animals to see at the zoo is the bears. There are four bears in the cage. We normally find the bears sleeping, laying in the water, or rumbling around with another bear. Katie and Sophia really enjoyed seeing the bears. The loved looking through the windows to see the bears moving around. They were growling after they saw the bears.

We also saw the mountain lions. One of the mountain lions was walking back and forth looking at the bob cat in the cage next to him. Katie and Sophia really liked seeing the big kitties.

Towards the end of the zoo trip, we found a tree with a lower branch. We put the girls up on the branch to sit. Katie wanted to go back on the tree when we took her down. Sophia wanted to come down from the tree right away.

Overall, this trip to the zoo was a success. Katie and Sophia had lots of fun and didn’t wanted to leave.
