2 Valentine Kids Art Ideas

Do your kids love to paint? My girls sure do. They would paint every day if they could.

When my girls do paint we usually do some sort of themed art. We do a lot of holiday paintings throughout the year and we will also paint with certain colors, such as primary colors (which we displayed in our girls’ bathroom).

We needed couple updated Valentine artworks for this year. So this year, we painted two different types of paintings to add to our Valentine decorations.

Below are two different Valentine art ideas for your kids to paint.

1. Lady bug handprint art. It is our yearly tradition to make these pictures for every season/holiday. I love seeing how much my girls’ handprints have changed from the year before. For the past years, we’ve made hearts and strawberry handprints artwork. My girls always enjoy getting their hand painted. I usually let my oldest two, Katie and Sophia draw the details on their own handprint. I add the year, their name and age next to their handprints, and sometimes I’ll write a little message with the artwork.

2. Love painting.Ā I spelled out love on paper with scotch tape. I picked out several shades of purple and pink. Then my girls had a blast painting all over the paper and covering the word love. Elizabeth especially enjoyed painting by herself. She even managed to paint on the wall beside her several times. After the paintings dried, I removed the tape carefully. Now you can see the word love in white.

Below are the handprint and love paintings hung up in my house next to my girls’ other artwork.

What do you think of these painting ideas? Are these something your kids would love to make? What are some things your kids make for a Valentine theme?

This post is part of a post series called Life of Parenthood, which is on the subject of parenting. I’ll talk about any adventures we have with our girls to motherhood experiences to fun and games for children to featuring mommy bloggers.

    1. My girls asked to paint today. Since we didn’t get to do it, we’ll have to do more painting soon. What type of tape paintings have you made with your girls? The other one we have made was snowflakes.
